I never thought I’d be a folk hero…

Since mid-summer, 2005, I have spent most of my weekends playing the role of Maid Marian at Renaissance Festivals across the country. It has been quite the eventful journey and Patrick has often asked that I journal our adventures, making them available to whomever wishes to read. So here it is! Enjoy.

A little memory from the Louisiana Renaissance Festival, 2005:

Patrick and I are at Wal-Mart after a faire day. We needed to pick up a loaf of bread, and stopped at the fabric counter to snag some yardage for our school programs. It was initially going to be a 5 minute stop, so neither of us had changed out of our garb.

While waiting in line, I overhear a little girl ask her mom, “Is that a real princess?” Her mom told her to ask me herself. We had quite the chat!

It isn’t often Patrick and I fall into our roles outside of the faire day, regardless of where we are.

But then there are those times when all you can do is create a little magic in the eyes of a child who still is willing to dream.
