Happy Easter

March 23, 2008

Easter Sunday is almost over. I managed to survive a Lenten season without coffee… or soda… or alcohol. It actually wasn’t all that bad until the end, at which point I was really craving root beer! Of all things. So a six-pack of IBC was my Easter Basket. I would have preferred Henry’s, but beggars cannot be choosers!

Somehow I managed to time dinner almost perfectly. The gravy was almost done when Thelma came home from church. Patrick lamented that she was gone too long. That’s what happens when you can smell the ham and the sweet potatoes for hours.

I really like spiral cut hams. I suppose I should really go all out one day and do the brining of the dried ham thing but that sure seems like an awful lot of work for only three of us. As it is, we’ve got ham for days!

We gave our neighbors an Easter Basket yesterday. They’re so nice and helpful to Thelma when we are not here. Really above and beyond neighborly behavior. A couple of hours later, two of them came to the door with a huge stack of plates full of food from their family party! I don’t know when we’ll have time to eat it all with all that ham left over!
